Smores Cheesecake

http://traceysculinaryadventures.blogspot.com/2011/06/smores-cheesecake.html

Yum! I made this cheesecake for my book club this month. Any excuse to make something with chocolate. It was very sweet but worth the effort. Thanks to Michael's blowtorch skills it was perfectly browned and his photography skills for this picture:)

Kootenai River

Our drive back to Idaho included this hike to Kootenai River. This was a more adventurous hike than the one in Glacier National Park. Our stopping point was this suspension bridge over the river.

Jacob just braved the first part.

Kootenai River was very impressive as most of the scenery was on this trip.

The specs in the background are Berta and I who opted not to go over the bridge.

Our last adventure in the Northwest. We definitely feel that we got a taste of frontier land and not the Disneyland kind.

Glacier National Park

Back to Glacier National Park. Lake MacDonald looked like glass.
We met some nice people who took this family photo for us at Lake MacDonald.

Trail of the Cedars was a wheelchair accessible trail that was an easy beginning to our day. The loop was about a mile.

Goofy Jacob.

This was a stop at the more adventurous Avalanche Creek trail that was not paved.

Cooling off after lunch.

Bye, bye Glacier National Park. It was quite an awesome experience with exceptional beauty.

Montana and Glacier National Park

Our cabin in Whitefish Montana.
Ranger Katie. She lead our hike/stroll.

Beautiful scenery every where you look.

Heavens Peak.

I dressed my kid correctly in shorts and sandals for the snow:) This portion of Glacier Park had the latest opening ever in July.

Snow sheep. The only wildlife we saw.

Lunch included a huckleberry soda for Jacob.

Wallace

On our road trip to Montana on Friday we went to the town of Wallace in Idaho. Wallace is the silver capital of the world and listed in the national register of historic places.

I think taxidermy is big business in Idaho.

The entire city is listed on the National Historic Registry.

Hank making friends with the locals in D & G Bakery.

D & G Bakery owner Anne who was a New Yorker who moved to Idaho. Nice lady and good sandwich.

Tubbs Hill

It was nice enough weather today for a little hike in Coeur d'Alene at Tubbs Hill which borders the lake.

Jacob with the biggest dandelion we have ever seen and the walking stick.

Thanks to the walking stick/tripod we were able the take this family picture.

Clowning around at lunch at the Pita Pit. Great food, we wish they put one in LA.

We ended a lovely day with Errol's extended family. Chris (pink shirt) made a delicious meal and was a very kind hostess.

Sandpoint

Today's adventure took us north 50 miles to a town called Sandpoint. Sandpoint is on the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille (there are a lot of lakes in Idaho). We ate at Panhandle Pies and yes we had pie. It had been a rainy morning but the afternoon was dry so we could walk around the shops. Jacob enjoyed shopping especially when it included buying something for him. Today's treasures were a Jacob's ladder and a tiny bottle of mixed gemstones.

Errol and Berta.
Fonzie the schnauzer.

Welcome to Coeur d'Alene

After a taxi ride, two airplane flights and a quick drive from Spokane Washington we arrived safely in Idaho (all before 12 noon). We met Errol at his house and his dog Fonzie then headed out for lunch. Here we are toasting with huckleberry lemonade. We had a wonderful view of lake Coeur d'Alene and a delicious lunch. The team split up after lunch so we could check into our hotel while the older folks with more energy went for a walk. Jacob's favorite part of the day was meeting Uncle Errol.

Toothless

We are on a roll now...I may have to play that famous Christmas song for Jacob anyway. Thanks to Michael who can always take a great picture of Jacob.

Autry National Center

This is our trip to the Western Heritage Museum across from the LA Zoo.

This picture cost me a cup of frozen yogurt.
They had an exhibit on space with a display of these paper airplanes.

I thought this was the most interesting piece.

Jacob was not very interested in this museum so I don't think we will be going back. My goal this summer was to try some new places so I am happy we went anyway.

4th of July Weekend

Our weekend project was to plant new flax in our front yard.
As you can see we are not opposed to child labor.

Michael, looking like he's supervising, did do a tremendous amount of work.

Our finished project.

Jacob has been asking to go to the beach again so off we went to Mother's beach. Jacob is happiest with shovel in hand.

Jacob took a detour from his usual hole digging.

The post would not be complete without some mention of food. I am on a quest this summer to make as many fruit pies as possible. This weekend we tried raspberry.
