Merry Christmas 2011

Jacob in his new pajamas, his "new" ipod touch and Michael's homemade apple donuts. Couldn't ask for a better Christmas morning.
Dad in his festive attire.

Jason clowning around but it made a great shot!

Jacob is a very fortunate boy indeed. Thank you one and all.

The new Harry Potter Lego game has received daily play already.

Pictures with Santa

Can't remember the last time I sat on Santa's knee. Santa, a.k.a Bill our neighbor, helped out with the Toys for Tots organization this year and since he had the costume he set up shop in our neighborhood too. We had a neighborly good time and I got a candy cane too! Thanks Bill and Linda for this fun holiday treat.

Holiday Show 2011

It is holiday sing time, my favorite school event. This year the kids performed three times so they could accommodate all the parents and keep to the fire codes of the building. It was much better and I could take a video of my child without a dozen other parent's cameras in front of me.

This year's singing selections were "Let It Snow", "Pickles in a Tannenbaum" and "Chumash Welcoming Song". Jacob had been battling a cold this week and by the last song he was coughing and losing steam. Bless him for making it through all three performances.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas...

It has become an annual tradition for Jacob to help Bill put up his Christmas lights and he loves it.

A new fixture this year, a train.

Neighbor extraordinaire Linda and her new holiday wreath.

Too busy to stop "working" to eat lunch so I kept giving him finger food like these crackers to keep him going.

After all the outside lights at our neighbors we went to Grandpa's and Aunt Thea's to decorate the Christmas tree. We let Jacob do most of it.

Looking at the lights with Aunt Thea.

Our weekend was filled with family and friends and we enjoyed every minute.

Happy Thanksgiving

I am thankful for all my family and friends. I am truly blessed. Happy Thanksgiving.

I Am Thankful For...By Jacob Zwang

This is Jacob's 3rd grade essay on Thanksgiving, a very scientific view. Enjoy!

I am thankful for...

I am thankful for trees because they give us paper. Important because you need it to learn. Books are made of paper. Paper is very useful for learning to write and read. Paper can be used for a lot of things.

Trees also give us wood. Wood is very important because it gives us table and houses and popsicle sticks. There are tons of things that wood is useful for. Trees give us oxygen. Oxygen is important because we need it to breathe. We could not live without oxygen. Oxygen is what anything living needs.

That is what I am thankful for.

Turkey Trouble

Turkey Trouble

By Jacob Zwang

It was the night before Thanksgiving

and there was turkey trouble in the barn.

Turkey was not very in a good mood.

He had turkey trouble because

he was the main course at dinner.

Jacob wrote this last year in November. I don't know how I missed posting it because I think it is a cute 2nd grade story. I hope there is no turkey trouble in your house.

Rainy Day Project

Need a computer? Michael had an old laptop computer that he gave to Jacob to dismantle. It took them about an hour and a half to disassemble this one. Jacob had a ball and couldn't wait to show me what all the pieces did. Another engineer in the making.

Halloween 2011

Jacob and Michael's pumpkin carving came out great this year.
This was the only picture I managed to take at the Halloween party and it is blurry. Well there is always next year.

Spiced Pumpkin Cupcakes

I made these spiced pumpkin cupcakes for the fall festival at Jacob's school. I liked them but Michael thought that they had too much ground cloves. You can adapt the recipe. Thanks to Michael for the artful picture.

S'mores Cupcakes

Jacob had a friend stay for the night this weekend so I decided to make these cupcakes as a treat. They were delicious and well worth the effort. The kids had fun watching us make the marshmallow topping and toasting the tops with a blow torch. The graham flour was essential in this recipe and making that s'more taste. I will definitely make these again.

Happy New Year

We were invited to our neighbor's house this year for a Rosh Hashanah dinner party. We decided to make this honey challah that was featured in the LA Times this month. Michael (aka the bread man) made the dough and I braided it. It looked great and we were hoping it would taste great. The bread was a big hit at the party and we are going to make it again for our dinner with Michael's parents. In case you are in a baking mood, here is the link to the recipie.
