Summer of Firsts

First cotton candy and now a blue Icee.  Jacob had never had an Icee before so we bought one today for him to try.  Since I am not very familiar with the product, I didn't realize that after you fill the cup the Icee continues to expand.  Live and learn.  Like most things it did not live up to its hype.  He said "it tastes just like soda".
Nothing like a new ball to make my kid happy.  Ah, the lazy days of summer.

3rd Grade Memories

It is with a tearful eye that we say goodbye to 3rd grade.  Jacob has had a great year and made many accomplishments.  The end of the year seems to rev up with activities and here are a few that I would like to share.

  1. On 6/7/12 Jacob received his Math Magician Award for passing the sixty second sweep in 50 seconds. Which means that Jacob memorized all the possible products of the numbers 2-9.  And why is it called the sixty second sweep?  Because when you can sweep through it and name the families of all the numbers in the matrix in one minute or less, then you can say you really know your facts.
  2. Jacob wrote a story called "Zwizzer Zwazzer Zwang Gets the Moon" through a program called Story Pirates.  His story was selected along with 2 other students to be performed at the Geffen Playhouse in Westwood this summer!   http://storypirates.org/
  3. Perfect Attendance Award.  Jacob has been waiting all year to receive a trophy and now he has got one!

Family Reunion

We had a family reunion with a visit from Errol, Howard and Margie.  Errol drove in from Idaho and Howard and Margie drove in from El Sobrente in the bay area.  It was a real fun day with a great BBQ meal by Scott.
Chocolate-Malt Cake.  I finally did it, I made a chocolate cake that was too chocolate and too sweet.  Most of us could not finish our piece.  Michael ended up eating most of the left-overs.
Howard and Hank smiling it up.
Howard, Hank and Micheal.
Sister and brother, Berta and Errol.
We are grateful to see our family and that they took the time to drive out and see us.  We look forward to more visits in the future.

The Origami Store

Most kids sell Lemonade but not mine.  Jacob opened an origami store this weekend.  All of his buyers were people we knew like our lovely neighbors Bill and Linda who also kindly posed for my photo.  Our mailman also bought something which I thought was really nice.  Jacob is learning some good business skills and also working through some of his shyness.  Will keep you posted on further sales:)

First Cotton Candy

Remember your first cotton candy?  I have been one of those parents who has deprived my child of cotton candy so when the opportunity came up at work I decided that Jacob needed the treat.  Jacob finished it and said he liked it but when I asked him if he would eat it again he said no.  I guess his taste buds have grown up.
We are celebrating National Nurses Week at work and this was part of a special event. This brave employee is part of our medical records department, he lucked out that the water was warm.  The kids had a blast throwing balls at the dunk tank.  Jacob stayed quite a while to watch the dunk tank.  The employees were a little too enthusiastic at throwing the balls:)  Don't you wish you had this much fun at work?

Happy Mother's Day

I received some nice cards from Jacob this year and  I especially like my happy heart.  I enjoyed my brunch of waffles, eggs and bacon and our dessert of angel food cake with strawberries.  Hope all you moms out there enjoyed your day too.  Happy Mother's Day.
