Camp Bob Waldorf on the Max Straus Campus

A total of 22 kids from Jacob's middle school went to camp together. The plan is for the kids to go every year all the way through high school. We will see if it works out.  Here is all the fun stuff they did.
Rope course.  Jacob tried it.
Rock climbing wall.  He tried it but said he didn't make it to the top.
Where they play the game Ga-ga.  Ga-ga (literally 'touch-touch' in Hebrew) is a variant of dodgeball that is played with one ball.
Gorilla Rock.
The pool.  They went swimming everyday.  Yea water.  Jacob was in the green team which meant he could swim in any part of the pool.  So glad we brushed up on swim lessons last year.
They had horses.  Jacob went horseback riding!  He didn't like it but he went.

They had a petting zoo of sorts.  A goat.
A lamb.
Front of a pig.
Back of a pig.
Rabbits that were not friendly according to Jacob.
Green house.
This wall is for the teenagers to climb as a team. When Jacob gets older he will be able to try this one.
Balancing board.
Nice cabin.  There were only 7 boys from his school and they all bunked here.
This walkway to his cabin was called the "cheese grater".  When you fell it shredded your skin.
The kids opted to take the stairs instead, all 52 of them.
This was Edin one of the camp counselors from Israel.
Jacob decided to put all his clothes on at once. I can't imagine how hot he was.
Art! They did art.
The End.

Science Camp

Jacob survived 3 days of science camp in the Santa Monica Mountains and he took pictures to prove it.  Unfortunately his camera battery did not survive the 3 days.  Next camp we will send the charger with him.

We are taking Jacob to an event this weekend to "gear up" for his next camp in June in Glendale.

Camp Stuff

Jacob went to science camp this summer also known as Camp Stuff.
He brought home a new bag of stuff each week.  As you can see from the brightly colored bags he went 4 weeks.
These are the projects that came home also known as new toys.  Jacob really likes this camp so we put up with stuff.

Smart Space Art Camp

It is my favorite time of year, summer art camp. I just love what Jacob creates. This week was on the modern art movement and here is some of his creations.

Surrealist "Dream Boxes"

Inspired by Piet Mondrian and a study of geometric shapes, lines and primary colors.

Printmaking lesson inspired by Andy Warhol and Pop Art.

Inspired by Emil Nolde and the Fauves style of painting.

A study in pastels of "The Scream" by Edvard Munch.

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter who was one of the founders of Abstract Art.

And finally, marshmallow sculptures inspired by contemporary artists such as Tara Donovan and Rachel Whiteread.

The sea of marshmallow art that greeted the parents was a sight to see:)
I am glad that the teacher provided an information sheet as I would have nothing to write:)

Lego Camp 2010

Jacob says this is a tree house. He got a little carried away while building it as it was too big to actually go on a Lego tree:)

Jacob was in charge of taking his own pictures and video this year. The movie is a Lego playground with a teeter tooter, swing and merry-go-round.

Buggy Bot

Jacob built a walking motorized K'Nex robot at camp this week. He calls it buggy bot. Jacob has really had a good time these past 4 weeks of science camp. I think he will be going back again next year. Next, on to Lego camp!

Lunar Rover

Jacob's lunar rover from science camp. He took a picture before he dismantled it to create something else. Last week was all about space, this week is all about animals.
