Fun Food Fridays

Recipe from the now defunct Cookie Magazine. Enjoy!

These crowd-pleasers are loaded with potassium and
antioxidants. Double the recipe for playdates and parties.

  • 2 ripe but firm bananas

  • 6 ounces dark chocolate,
    chopped, or semisweet chocolate chips

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1/2 cup granola, chopped pecans and walnuts, or
    sprinkles (optional)

  1. Line a baking sheet with
    nonstick foil or parchment paper.

  2. Cut the bananas in half and
insert a Popsicle stick into each half, as shown. Place them on
the baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.

  3. Meanwhile, melt the chocolate
with the oil in a Pyrex measuring cup in the microwave (check
it every 30 seconds) or in a half-full pan of simmering water
(about 2 minutes). Stir until smooth.

  4. Roll each banana half in the
chocolate, then quickly sprinkle with your topping (if using).

  5. Freeze until the chocolate sets, 30 minutes. Serve or
freeze in an airtight container for up to a week.

So Long First Grade

The kids enjoyed pizza, fruit and cake on the last day of school. First grade was a whirlwind and we are both looking forward to summer.

Spring Music Performance

The first grade classes sang "One Day When I Grow Up" and the scarf dance music was "The Aquarium" at least that is what Jacob said. It is all cute to me.

Spring Fling Winner

Jacob's school recently had its annual spring fling fundraiser. Each year I buy raffle tickets and hope for the best. We have been really lucky each year.
We won tickets to see a children's play called The Stinky Cheese Man based on the above book.
Jacob won this Pixos set which includes 1500 Pixo balls (lucky me). He has been asking for this since they were called Aquaballs so he is thrilled. He has requested I put his creations on my blog.

Jacob's Autobiopoem

Jacob

Funny, strong, happy, I am as dirty as a shoe

Son of Diane and Michael

I like ice cream sundaes

I feel happy and excited

Who finds happiness in book shares, animals and open house

Who needs fruit, water and juice

Who gives help, nice and lovable

I am afraid of the creatures in the deep

I want to travel around the world

I would like to wear a uniform

I liked this so much that I wanted to share. This is a school project that Jacob worked on. There was a set of questions that Jacob had to fill out. The rough draft came home with a lot of red pen corrections. I liked the "rough" draft ideas the best.

Homemade Donuts

Our house is always up for a food challenge. Donuts are one of the foods we cannot buy Jacob due to his peanut allergy. We don't know what they put in donuts but he always has an allergic reaction. So Michael decided to make from scratch glazed raised donuts. Turned out pretty good for his first try.

Donut snatcher going back for his second. I think they were a hit.

Viva Las Vegas

Michael and I celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary by going to Las Vegas. We are grateful to Michael's parents for taking care of Jacob for 4 whole days. Thank you!
