Happy New Year

We were invited to our neighbor's house this year for a Rosh Hashanah dinner party. We decided to make this honey challah that was featured in the LA Times this month. Michael (aka the bread man) made the dough and I braided it. It looked great and we were hoping it would taste great. The bread was a big hit at the party and we are going to make it again for our dinner with Michael's parents. In case you are in a baking mood, here is the link to the recipie.

Living With a Teenager?

Every wall in Jacob's bedroom is covered with Harry Potter posters. Why? Here's the story.

Jacob received $5 gift certificate for the school book fair from his second grade teacher for completing his summer journal and reading log. Jacob decided on one and only one book, Harry Potter Movie Poster Book. He wanted to buy this book last year but I said no. Now armed with his own money he was determined to buy it, a bargain since it only cost $6.99. He couldn't wait to get home and decorate his room with Harry Potter posters. Michael joked that we seem to be living with a teenager.

Chocolate Pudding Pops

My September goal of making ice cream every week has turned to popsicles. I saw this recipe for chocolate pudding pops in Cooking Light and had to try it. I thought they were delicious but Jacob says they were too chocolaty, a concept I am not familiar with.

3rd Grade Here I Come!

Jacob would tell you that he was not looking forward to the first day of school but the night before his shoes, socks and clothes were all laid out. This morning he was up all dressed including shoes, bed made and ready for breakfast. While I heated up pancakes he made his lunch! I can only hope that this routine will continue.

Strawberry Rhubarb Ice Cream

I some how missed making ice cream this summer so my goal for September is to make ice cream once a week. This weeks' selection comes from Cooking Light and was a big hit with the family.

Labor Day part 2

We had a Moroccan Labor Day meal with lamb chops, Moroccan mashed potato casserole and Moroccan carrot salad. The meal had mixed reviews. We all loved the lamb chops, we were divided on the potato casserole and no one liked the dressing on the carrot salad. Dessert was a big hit also. More to come on our ice cream adventures.

Labor Day part 1

At 6 AM this morning we were awoken to the unmistakable sound of balloon twisting. Jacob, inspired by his trip to Farrell's, made this balloon hat. Don't you wish you had one?
