Fun Food Fridays

Blackberry, honey and yogurt pops!
I finally got my Popsicle molds and couldn't wait to try them out. This recipe is from the current issue of bon appetit magazine. They were delicious!http://www.bonappetit.com/recipes/2010/08/blackberry_honey_and_yogurt_pops

Smart Space Art Camp

It is my favorite time of year, summer art camp. I just love what Jacob creates. This week was on the modern art movement and here is some of his creations.

Surrealist "Dream Boxes"

Inspired by Piet Mondrian and a study of geometric shapes, lines and primary colors.

Printmaking lesson inspired by Andy Warhol and Pop Art.

Inspired by Emil Nolde and the Fauves style of painting.

A study in pastels of "The Scream" by Edvard Munch.

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky, a Russian painter who was one of the founders of Abstract Art.

And finally, marshmallow sculptures inspired by contemporary artists such as Tara Donovan and Rachel Whiteread.

The sea of marshmallow art that greeted the parents was a sight to see:)
I am glad that the teacher provided an information sheet as I would have nothing to write:)

Lego Camp 2010

Jacob says this is a tree house. He got a little carried away while building it as it was too big to actually go on a Lego tree:)

Jacob was in charge of taking his own pictures and video this year. The movie is a Lego playground with a teeter tooter, swing and merry-go-round.

Fun Food Friday

Banana Split Ice Cream Cake

From Family Fun Magazine, this recipe was a crowd pleaser. I made a half recipe in an 8 inch square pan which worked just fine. I omitted the nuts, used dark chocolate chips and used real whipped cream for the topping. I also omitted the crumbs on top. Getting the frozen treat out intact is tricky too but you can let it thaw a little or I used a hot knife. This is a make ahead dessert as it needs to freeze for several hours but well worth the wait. Pretty easy to assemble. Here is the link to the recipe.

Happy Birthday Hank

Today was Hank's 80th birthday. We had a small family celebration at our house. Michael made eggs benedict, Hank's favorite, for brunch. Then we celebrated with pineapple upside down cake.

In the afternoon, the boys kept busy with Jacob's new desk. Ikea of course but I think that ended up being Jacob's favorite part.

We ended the day with dinner at the Chart House in Marina del Rey. We had a great meal and a celebrity sighting, Kareem Abdul -Jabbar.
