Diane Turns 46

In our house we use one candle no matter how old you are.

After a lovely brunch at Joe's Restaurant, we did cake and presents at the house.  Thea spoiled me as usual, thank you for everything.  One of my 87 year old patients told me, "you look good for 46".  I love my job:)

The Egg

This egg was the candy Jacob most wanted to try.  I am sure size had something to do with it.

He carefully unwrapped it to save the foil.  And we got confirmation that it was a chocolate egg.
Don't tell his dentist or orthodontist that I let him do this.
He looked inside..
And there was a peep inside.  Very nice surprise.

Happy Easter 2014

In our house, candy needs to be sorted, categorized and inspected.
Evaluated...

Counted...
Then reassembled and any open products need to be put in baggies to ensure freshness.
Thank you Auntie Thea for the generous Easter basket.  I think we have enough candy now for the next ice age.

Happy Easter!

French Fridays with Dorie

I have discovered a new cookbook author, Dorie Greenspan and I am late to the party as she has authored 25 cookbooks already.  After viewing her website http://doriegreenspan.com/ I discovered she has some online cooking groups.  I decided to join French Fridays with Dorie, a group that has been cooking for 4 years from the cookbook Around My French Table.  I have not done a cooking club before so I thought this would be fun to try out.

I am going to attempt to make all four recipes in April.
April 4, 2014: Visitandine (p436)
April 11, 2014: Quiche Maraichère (p158)
April 18, 2014: Baby Bok Choy, Sugar Snaps and Garlic en Papillote (p348)
April 25, 2014: Green as spring veal stew (p262)

Jog-a-Thon

Every year the school does a jog-a-thon, this will be Jacob's last one.  He is on the end with his best pal Ethan.  Jacob ran 10 laps which is pretty good given his cold/allergy state.

Kirigami

Kirigami.  This is what is keeping Jacob's little fingers busy with these days.  He does this before bed every night.

Jerusalem A Cookbook

This cookbook by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi is like a work of art.  The pictures are beautiful,  makes me want to cook everything in the book.  I checked this out from the library, waited 6 months on the list, and this is what we made from the 3 weeks we had it.
Spice Cookies
 Semolina, coconut and marmalade cake

Also made from this cookbook, baby spinach salad with dates and almonds.  It was a big hit for everyone.  Roasted potatoes with caramel and prunes.  I served it with roasted chicken and it was delicious.  Michael made me falafel and it turned out perfect, beginners luck.  We made turkey and zucchini burgers with green onion and cumin.  We loved them, would make them again.  Highly recommended cookbook.  http://www.amazon.com/Jerusalem-Cookbook-Yotam-Ottolenghi/dp/1607743949/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1394301310&sr=1-1&keywords=jerusalem+a+cookbook
